I’m not sure what he was doing under that tree, whether he was thinking, dreaming or just resting. But he was a natural subject and I had to take a picture. Even while preparing my camera I had several options in mind. The tree and the thinker made a nice sihouette against the brighter sky, but there was also the option of enhancing the green and blue desaturated by the sinking sun and gray clouds. Technical and compositional possibilites churning through my head, but the most interesting question was still: Who is he and what’s on his mind. I hope both versions do the thinker justice.
The thinker was a natural subject. I was with some of my students – most of them had already left the place, but those who stayed behind also saw the man and did what they had to do. But I was first;-)
